About Waukesha County
Waukesha County was originally settled by New Englanders shortly after the Revolutionary War. Its open prairie, virgin forests and abundant lakes made for an ideal place to grow a community.
The northwestern part of Waukesha County is known as Lake Country, and was very popular as a vacation spot for wealthy people from Chicago, Milwaukee and elsewhere. Early twentieth-century Broadway stars Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne had an estate in Genesee Depot, Ten Chimneys, which is open to the public for tours.
Waukesha County is home to the Badgerland Water Ski Show Team, which performs shows around Lake Country featuring pyramids, flips, dance lines and more.
