What is autogas?

Autogas is liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for combustion engines like those in vehicles and other equipment. Engines that use autogas run much cleaner than ones that use gasoline or diesel, and produce many fewer emissions — 20% less carbon monoxide, 40% less nitrogen oxide and 10% less carbon dioxide.

What fleet vehicles and equipment can use autogas?

Just about all of them! Here are some examples:

Why should you use autogas?

You’ll get a lot of benefits besides reducing your emissions, although lowering your carbon footprint is a pretty good one.

School districts all over the country, including right here in Wisconsin, are converting their school buses to autogas. Not only is it more efficient, it reduces the need for maintenance, produces less wear on parts, and helps buses last longer with fewer breakdowns and repairs. And, a huge benefit in Wisconsin: Autogas doesn’t gel in the winter, so the buses can run no matter how low the temperature gets!

Autogas makes good fiscal sense. Because propane historically costs less per gallon than gasoline or diesel, you’ll be saving money with lower fuel costs and lower maintenance costs, even after you factor in the cost of converting your fleet vehicles to autogas or buying new autogas vehicles.

Managing your fuel costs can get even easier if your fleet fueling is done on-site: you’ll be able to track fuel usage and not have to do the paperwork that goes with receipts and reimbursements.
